Maritime skills bootcamps train the offshore workforce

Fast-track programs across the floating economy equip crews for floating energy and modern shipping.

Maritime skills are shifting into bootcamp mode. Short, intensive courses are emerging to meet urgent workforce gaps in offshore wind, floating infrastructure, and port electrification. By compressing training into weeks instead of years, these bootcamps give new entrants and transitioning workers a fast path to sea-based jobs.

  • Marine electrician bootcamp launches in UK. In August 2025, Fareport Training and the British Maritime Training & Assessment (BMTA) opened a 10-week bootcamp in the Solent. The program develops specialist electrical skills for marine roles and is fully funded for eligible learners.

  • Maersk runs green skills bootcamp. Maersk Training now delivers three-week green skills bootcamps to certify offshore wind turbine technicians. Graduates gain entry into one of the fastest-growing maritime-linked energy sectors.

  • UK cadet overhaul modernises training. In 2024, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency updated cadet training under the Cadet Training & Modernisation Programme. The new syllabus, rolling out in September 2025, integrates decarbonisation and digital shipping skills.

  • Singapore plans Offshore Wind Academy. The Asia Wind Energy Association announced an Offshore Wind Academy in Singapore in 2024. Designed as a regional hub, it will offer intensive training for offshore wind roles vital to floating projects in Asia.

That’s not all: maritime bootcamps are scaling globally, from port electrification to offshore renewables. Analysts say they will become the backbone of workforce pipelines for floating infrastructure.
